Bowls clubs ponder their next move

Les Creux is Jersey’s venue for international standard bowls competitions

INTERNATIONAL bowls matches and the future of two bowls clubs in Jersey are under threat due to rising maintenance costs, coupled with falling membership figures.

Les Creux, which was built to host international and other major events, and St Brelade BC are the affected clubs and Education, Sport & Culture assistant director Derek de la Haye will discuss the current dilemma with members of both clubs next month.

De la Haye said: ‘I’ve had numerous meetings with officials from the clubs and Bowls Jersey. We are trying to find a solution as to the best way to move forward for the sport.’
