The French fisherman who died, Philippe Lesaulnier

CONDOR Ferries is to face a police investigation into yesterday’s crash at the Minquiers which claimed the life of a French father of four.

The 42-year-old fisherman died and two others were rescued after the Condor Vitesse ploughed into the Les Marquises fishing boat in thick fog.

Passengers reported hearing a loud bang as the high-speed ferry with 192 passengers on board apparently ‘sliced the boat in two’.

French police and maritime authorities have now launched a joint investigation into the crash, which happened about half an hour into a crossing from St Malo yesterday morning.
