Death of Jersey Side by Side founder

THE founder of the Jersey Side by Side charity, former Deputy Mike Wavell has died after a long battle with cancer.
Mr Wavell, who was 64, the chairman and driving force behind the charity which has supported disaster relief projects around the world since the 2004 tsunami, was also a prominent patron of the arts who helped found the Jersey Academy of Music.
The former Defence Committee president was also a successful businessman. Having trained as a nurse in the UK, he established the Guardian Nursing Agency, Guardian Nursing Home and Guardian Medical Supplies businesses.
Mr Wavell leaves a wife, Rosemary, and a daughter, Evangeline.
