Spartan plea is answered
Wednesday 20th April 2011, 3:00PM BST.
THE potential for Jersey Spartan athletes to reach the highest competitive standards has been boosted by a £4,000 sponsorship deal with Heritage Oil.
Fears were growing that athletes would struggle to compete as regularly in the UK following the loss of the club’s major sponsor. As a result the club had descended into a funding crisis and with rising costs, were forced to withdraw financial subsidies for local athletes travelling to the UK.
But following an appeal in the Jersey Evening Post by a group trying to raise funds for the club, led by Grant Stenhouse, sponsorship by the Island-based oil and gas exploration and production business has been confirmed.
