1,310 looking for work
Thursday 21st April 2011, 2:58PM BST.
UNEMPLOYMENT dropped slightly last month, but the number of people looking for work (1,310) remains a record figure for March.
The latest figures on Islanders out of work and looking for a job show that nearly a quarter are teenagers.
According to the figures published this morning by the States’ statistics unit for the end of March, there were 1,310 Islanders out of work. That is 160 fewer than February, but 140 up on March 2010.

KIT 4 CLUBS
Win a share of £10,000
2012 is the year of the London Olympics and to celebrate this great event the Jersey Evening Post, in association with sponsors Ogier is giving all sporting clubs a chance to win a share of £10,000.
It doesn’t make sense that so many people have been coming to Jersey(see immigration out of control article) yet there are 1,310 who claim to be looking for work. Why can’t these 1,310 find work when presumably the immigrants can?

Shouldn’t be an issue since 1500 jobs have been created should it? Unless the figures given for jobs being created were just hot air.

The clue is in the heading ‘looking for work’ – no doubt a large proportion of these (all whom will be ‘local’ by the way) consistently failing to find work. Then again I don’t suppose there are many jobs advertised on their bedroom ceilings or above their TV’s.

3. Good to see you back again RT. Typical propaganda from an establishment supporter.
Can anyone explain how creating 1500 jobs leads to 1300 out of work? Have all these jobs been filled by new arrivals?
Anyone else got any explanation for this?

Adrian you’ll be thinking you can see the face of RT in your breakfast cereal next, you’re a bit like the Witchfinder General.
Personally I’d be inclined to partly agree with God’s Mentor on this occasion – the attitude of, “why should I find work when Social Security pay me anyway” is all too prevalent. Tighten up the ‘well-fair’ welfare system and we wouldn’t be needing to import immigrants to get the work done.
What I didn’t agree with, was the typical anti-local jibe you’d expect from God’s Mentor, but then he can’t seem to write one complete comment without throwing in at least a little trolling.

And immigration is on the up……
Report abuse
it seems odd that unemployment goes up and yet the matter of immigration is going somewhat out of control

Heading should read “unemployed” not “looking for work” ! As we all kniw nit all those unemployed are actively seeking employment. Many are also working cash in hand.
