The first meeting of the horse racing season attracted a bumper crowd

The 2011 Jersey Race Club got off to a bumper start as around 3,000 racegoers enjoyed near perfect conditions at Les Landes.

The recent dry weather meant that the going was unseasonably on the firm side of good, although given the lack of rain there was still a good covering of grass.

Prior to racing to racing the Lieutenant-Governor, Lieutenant-General Andrew Ridgway, opened the new Koka Fast Viewing Area for disabled racegoers, so it was most appropriate that the season’s opening event The Easter Monday Handicap Hurdle was won by Koka Fast.
