House for sale – at £1m less than original price

The property at Corbière

A LANDMARK property seized by the Royal Court from a developer who went bankrupt owing £6.7 million has gone back on the market – for almost £1 million less than the original asking price.

The Old Station House, which sits at the end of the Railway Walk at Corbière, is being offered for sale for £1.75 million. When it was first put up for sale, it has a price-tag of £2.7 million.

The building is part of the assets seized from Frank and Anne Venton, who were declared en désastre in the Royal Court earlier this month.

Ha ha ha….The place was ruined with a garish and unsympathetic add on that changed the look and feel of what could have been done so well if taste instead of profit were the goal….same as Portelet….as ye sow etc……….

…and will Cohen say this was not his doing. The building has been ruined and does not suit the surroundings. No attempt was made to blend the new with the old. Who in their right mind would buy this disaster?

It would be a nice house again if all the naff add-ons are removed. How much did they originally buy it for?

I would be suprised if any offers over £1m are received on this property

Really good to see a developer come unstuck – And there are other questionable new builds which are proving difficult to sell

The main problem with this property is the lack of privacy

It is very close to public roads (including a bus stop), footpaths, and toilets (!)

I think it looks fine, but the sort of people who can spend almost £3 million on a house usually want more privacy than what was on offer here

If its eventual buyers don’t mind the lack of privacy, then they might get a bargain

    What a monstrosity!
    No wonder it hasn’t sold.
Will Mr Cohen admit to authorizing this?
Or was it someone else again……….

i think its sad to see someone loose it all, i have known some nice folk loose the lot. life’s a gamble.
i would of thought that this building in particular, would of been a listed building , given it history.
good programe on radio four the other day about the rethink on the idea of who dies with most toys wins ethic.
sadly i could not listen to it all as i had to resume work.

It does look rather pants what a waste of time and effort, much nicer things you could have done with that, like another house I know it may struggle to sell

At the time of the auction, it appeared strange to me that it wasn’t bought – at any cost- by someone who really wanted to live in such a unique location. Apart from being a bit of a lightning magnet, it does have better views than anywhere other than the German tower.

I think that it is probably due to the recession that there isn’t a queue of buyers.

It must be ideal for a wealthy exhibitionist recluse who doesn’t need a garage or workshop and who doesn’t want to walk far to post a letter.

Come on, all you moaners, the add ons have turned it into something far less dismal than the original building. The pool wing could have done with the obligatory granite facing, though.

    Grand Delusions

Not “Grand Designs” as the shallow marketeers put it.

Well said “small money” @11. Yes sad -even if those involved have had questionable arrangements with “not the sharpest tool” and at their own admission also other states members.
It is difficult not to feel sorry for them but spare a thought also for any non-institutional creditors or unpaid contractors that they may have.

Your Radio 4 programme is probably still on the iplayer if you are quick.

The old station has history but it is not that old and had been beaten with the ugly stick in a few places even before the makeover from hell. – call it Cold Comfort Terminus ?

An OK building transformed into another trashy cliche despite planning or posibly BECAUSE of it ?

The other side of this extension also VIOLATES the public space of the railway walk in one of the few places where it widens for workable play and picnicking – who wants to picnic or even loiter and relax in a place where you now feel like you are on stage – doh! yet another BASIC PLANNING DEPT. ERROR !!! Are officers capable and trained or were they overruled by politicians/management ?

Not fit for purpose and hijacked by the money go round mob ?

Perhaps the glass and zinc thing off the first floor could be put to good use as a bus shelter at the nearby bus-stop ?
    - or perhaps it could be used as a cage for Cohen or one of the other great apes to prevent further environmental damage?
The most most humane thing to do would be to release Cohen in Monaco which would be his natural environment – lots of green money to feed on; but could he compete in the wild ?

There are many on this island who have “milked the Jersey Cow” many times over, and for some, nature’s justice will give them a bucket full of pee when they pull the teet too hard !

I,agree with warren 2 million pounds worth of views but a house not worth a million . no garden, railway walk going round it, ugly extension . only thing going for it is that its close to the pub about time greedy developers got a taste of their own back

At least the quality of architecture in Jersey reflects the quality of our planning system.

We don’t need iconic buildings, we need sympathetic ones.

Honestly, if I had the spare cash I’d buy the place and remove that
appalling extension. A few geraniums at the front and a restored platform is all it needs.

This house is still over priced, it may have nice views but that all . No ordinary working class person could afford to buy this property and the super rich want a lot more for their money

    Another Cohen disaster!!!

I believe he bought it for less than 500k? even if he spent a million on it that is a massive profit..

If only Dandara would bog off we would just need to get rid of Cohen and get a planning minister with 20/20 vision and some common sense and taste before the island is buried udner concrete and glass.

    Come to Iconic Jersey…

Definition of Iconic: relating to or having the characteristics on an icon. If we can find which Icon Freddie is looking at we may have some idea why he approves these things!

    @21:

There is an interesting theological argument at the bottom of this. The original word icon is Greek, and what it means in the Old and New Testaments is “a visible representation of something that by its nature is not visible”.

Rather than attempt to do bible study, the next best example is on the screen of your computer. The pictures down the side which you click to activate a program are called icons, and actually that is exactly what they are: clicking the picture represents a hidden set of operating system commands.

The trouble is that Freddie apparently doesn’t understand this, and consistently misuses the word “iconic” simply to mean “striking” or “eye-catching”. At least, I hope that he doesn’t understand it… because the only conclusion I’d be able to draw if I thought he really did mean that these buildings were “iconic” would be that they were representative of sheer contempt for Jersey’s natural environment and its cultural heritage.

‘Iconic’, as commonly used in Jersey, is actually a corruption of ‘Cohenic’.
