New powers for oil price investigators
Wednesday 27th April 2011, 3:00PM BST.
INVESTIGATORS looking into the sharp rise in heating oil and petrol prices have been granted new powers to demand files and records after some companies refused to hand over documents.
The Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority is looking into the price of heating oil – which rose by 31% in the 12 months up to March – and petrol, and has been given tough new powers by Economic Development Minister Alan Maclean.
The powers enable the JCRA to demand access to computers and to demand copies of files to take away. Refusing to comply with written notices issued can result in a fine.

Are the regulators also going to look into Gas prices which have also risen by around 30% in the last 6 months??????

Looking into it is one thing. Acting on the greed perpetrated by the fuel companies is another thing altogether. How fuel prices can go from less than 90p a litre to almost £1.25 depending which forecourt you use in 4 months or so is a disgrace and I dont want to hear any waffle from the fuel companies about high taxes being implemented. Its blatant profiteering nothing more. Its what us mugs aka the Jersey public should be used to by now though right? Weve been getting ripped off for years.

The duty on road-use petrol is just shy of 43p/L yet Rubis marine petrol(without it) cost 95p/L (25-04-11). If excise duty were added to marine it would cost a staggering £1.38. That’s what happens when market conditions don’t favour the consumer.

It is time more tax was taken from those who abuse the markets in Jersey.

Is this man naturally stupid or does he practice?
Last week he told us all it wouldn’t good for Jersey if we had any form of payrise.
Now Sherlock here has deduced that basic raw essentials are expensive.
This has been looked at before by the Wonder Boy, and guess what, no action was taken then nor will any be taken now.
The States stand to make a fair killing when GST hikes up to 5%, so why should they get the commodity suppliers to lower their prices?
Another load of flap and guffor from the wealthy ruling elite who don’t actually give a damm about Joe Average.

perhaps they could have a look at food prices which have gone up 30 percent more than the uk and the gas company and why local shops charge vat and gst and have rubbish service the list is endless overhere but you can tell it is election year

Whilst you investigate on our behalf Alan perhaps you would let us know how much the States are gaining courtesy of the motoring public !!!

Whilst your at it Boy Wonder why don,t you check the JEC price hikes due to the rise in Oil ,,,,, We are connected to the French NUCLEAR POWER station so where does the oil costs come into the equation??????????

Amusing article. We have been getting stung for years, yet only now do they talk about doing anything, *cough* election year *cough*.
All the JCRA and politicians did, was go after JT and leave the fuel co’s and JEC alone. 30% increase from JEC? Yep just do it.
A level fair playing field is all we want but it will never happen.

Its not just Fuel that we are paying too much for.
