Today’s souvenir edition of the Jersey Evening Post was one of the first newspapers in the world to publish reports and pictures of the Royal Wedding.
The JEP took the decision to publish on a public holiday and delay printing by an hour in order to be the first to bring its readers pictures of Prince William and Kate Middleton leaving Westminster Abbey as a married couple.
The first copies of the souvenir edition, which will remain on sale over the holiday weekend, were at St Helier news stands justafter 1 pm.
The London Evening Standard, which had stated it was aiming to be the first newspaper in the British Isles to carry a front page picture of the married couple, did not hit the streets of London until 2.05 pm.

KIT 4 CLUBS
Win a share of £10,000
2012 is the year of the London Olympics and to celebrate this great event the Jersey Evening Post, in association with sponsors Ogier is giving all sporting clubs a chance to win a share of £10,000.
Shame Jersey didn’t celebrate this event in a bigger way and I’m very disappointed at the lack of any big organised event in town, so ended up watching it on television at home. Really wish I’d been able to afford to travel over to London to celebrate properly over there!

Personally I find newspapers obsolete, at best they tell you what happened yesterday, the TV or internet news is bang up to date, one for the oldies I think.

well done JEP! stick it to the Londoners!

How much did that farce cost ? No money for hospitals, nurses .and why did our Island close but not on liberation day if it falls at the weekend.

Hooray?….
I must admit, the royal wedding was not of great interest to me, however I was still doing a 9 hour shift yesterday… amazed how little the island celebrated this event, watching it at home from your TV must of been the only real option because I never saw/heard about any party’s for the event.

All hands to the printing press. What did jep have to gain from that considering they are the only island newspaper and face no competition/opposition.
Just the usual self backpatting on what must have been a major decission.

Scruffy 4 –

How much did it cost? it didn’t cost anything, the income generated by tourism far outweighed any inherant cost. The royal family cost the UK taxpayer about 80 million pounds a year but they generate 3 billion pounds in revenue – you don’t have to be a maths genius to realise that’s incredible value for money.
No money for hospitals/nurses – are you referring to the UK or Jersey, your post is so random it’s impossible to tell. The 1 million people who attended the event spent money on flights, public transport, food and drink – the income from those alone would pay the royal family’s costs for a year.
Why did our island close – it didn’t many shops and businesses chose to honour the event but Checkers Express and many other shops were open all day. As for Liberation day falling at the weekend and us not getting a holiday, you’ve answered your own question, it fell at the weekend therefore not a working day, this event was on a weekday.
You should ditch Scruffy and re name yourself whinger, an ill informed one at that.
It was a wonderful occasion, shame the island didn’t enter into it more, I had the union flag proudly displayed and had a party with 40 or so friends, this is our future king and queen, the wedding was glorious.
