Man pinned down by runaway tractor
Friday 20th May 2011, 2:59PM BST.
A MAN had a lucky escape this morning when he tried to stop his runaway tractor from rolling down a hill at the Bellozanne recycling centre.
As the tractor started rolling backwards, he tried to jump into the cab to stop it but lost his footing. The tractor only came to a stop when it crashed into a van and the man’s arm remained pinned under the wheel for 15 minutes.
A Transport and Technical Services department worker who saw the incident immediately raised the alarm.
Firefighters said that the tractor would have rolled over the driver’s head had it not hit the van.
