Warning over wildfire threat

THE Island is the brink of a major wildfire after weeks of dry weather, firefighters have warned.
They say that Jersey has been placed on immediate wildfire alert and fear a blaze similar to those which ripped through the Jersey countryside two years ago.
The service has now stepped-up its response to all reports of outside fires and will send extra firefighters and equipment, including water carriers, to even small blazes.
Only last week, the service sent a water carrier to a small hedge fire in St Ouen – a parish which has been plagued by large countryside fires in the past.
Firefighters have also launched a publicity campaign to warn of the devastating effects of sparking a blaze.

Don’t want another Idiot on murder charge like the Britton, who started the deadly fire which spead over Tavble Mountain and Lion’s head, and caused a couple of deaths, a few years ago! Yes I know it is Jersey, but just goes to show what happens!
Yes, it was me who in the line of traffic, got out of my car, and tapped on window of car infront and picked up the lady’s cig butt and threw it back into her car, I also pointed out she did have an ashtray in car for use!
Perhaps Channel 103 should have phone-in and we can tell them over air the J Plate of offenders, throwing butts/rubbish out of moving vehicles …shame them!
