The controversial development at Portelet

LARGE coastal developments – such as at Portelet – should never be allowed to happen again, warned a Senator who has called for increased protection of Jersey’s coastline.

Senator Francis Le Gresley, who wants the proposed coastal national park enlarged to cover four other sensitive areas in Jersey, said that Islanders are not prepared to see the coastline damaged any more.

Dandara’s development of 54 luxury homes overlooking Portelet Bay recently caused outrage when the public were made aware of the full scale of the project.

Senator Le Gresley made his comments in relation to Portelet on the first day of a public inquiry to discuss new issues arising from States Members’ amendments to the draft Island Plan.
