AN investigation is underway after a group of more than 50 French school children began vomiting while on a day trip to Jersey.

Nearly all of the 56 primary school children from Granville were affected and 16 of them had to be treated in a French hospital, some of them over night.
Jersey’s Public Health team is now investigating Thursday’s outbreak, which led to some of the group being ill in a local restaurant.

A Health spokesman said that they were looking into whether the vomiting had been caused by the sickness bug norovirus or food poisoning.

However Jersey’sacting  Medical Officer of Health, Dr Susan Turnbull, said the former was more likely as there had been no other reported cases of food poisoning in the Island and some of the group had been ill before they arrived.
