New body to give advice to fledgling enterprises

Tuesday 24th May 2011, 3:00PM BST.

JBV chairman Julie Melia

A BODY similar to Jersey Finance is to be set up to give advice to businesses in the Island.

It should be up and running by the start of next year and will be governed by an independent board.

Currently a division of a States department and a separate mainly publicly funded body are both providing the service free of charge.

Part of the intention is to save money in the medium to long term but still provide a comprehensive service, especially to people starting up their own business.

The new organisation is to be created as a result of a merger between the internal section of Jersey Enterprise – which is part of the Economic Development department – and Jersey Business Venture.

Doesn’t the Jersey Bussiness Venture already do this? They have certainly helped me in the past.

Only advice they can give at the moment is to shut up shop.
