No threat to OAP call discounts

Thursday 26th May 2011, 2:56PM BST.

JERSEY Telecom has extended a deadline for pensioners to return a form that earns them a discounted phone rate – after several OAPS received the letters late.

The JEP was contacted by several Islanders who had received application forms yesterday that stated they had to be completed and returned by Friday.

The form is to ensure that all men over 65 and women over 60 receive a discount on their line rental, a deal known as Prime Talk, and that the discounted lines are not used in households owned by people under the age limit.

However, Jersey Telecom sent out the letters – all dated 13 May but with no sent date on the envelopes – in staggered amounts to ensure that their office was not inundated with inquiries and replies. This meant that some customers only received their forms, which included a prepaid envelope for reply, this week.

Jersey Telecom has now assured customers that the final deadline for confirming their eligibility is the end of June, not 27 May.
