Sunshine, warm, weather…and still the best beaches

An evening at St Brelade's Bay - one of the top beaches

ISLANDERS have enjoyed weeks of sunshine and warm weather – and now we have another reason to get down to the seaside as our beaches have been ranked among the best in Britain.

Fourteen beaches have today been officially recommended in the Marine Conservation Society’s Good Beach Guide 2011.

The beaches placed on the list include St Brelade’s Bay, Portelet, Bouley Bay and Plémont. And a further two – Bonne Nuit and Victoria Pool at West Park have passed the basic test.

A total of 461 beaches across Britain received the top ‘recommended’ award for having excellent bathing water quality. But 46 beaches – including Cobo Bay in Guernsey – failed to meet even the basic standards.

Agreed, we have some of the nicest beaches in the world, or at least would do if there wasn’t so much litter lying around.

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that this year there seems to be more and more litter on our beaches.

Is sea lettuce a new addition to making a good beach?

And no visitors to enjoy them, and after the trip back from UK at the weekend on the fast ferry!! sorry ex fast ferry Rapide. Not hard to see why its a overpriced unreliable worn out piece of junk ,bringing the sailing time forward with Little notice or regard meant we paid for services that we could not enjoy then had to pay Condoer for more. Time this company was toled to shove off and a state run service set up to provide these essential links.

This face it we can pay out half a mill for 2 civil servants to go so there must be loads of cash in the bank

    1 –
Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that this year there seems to be more and more litter on our beaches.

I walk my dog at West Park just after sunrise and the crap I find on the beach defies belief. Kid congregate at the foot of the West Park steps and drink. Despite their being a bin at the top of the steps they leave all their rubbish on the beach. This includes many beer bottles – guess what, they break when the tide comes in. It’s a rare day when I don’t pick up broken glass from the beach.

AA few weeks ago the little sh*ts tipped the 1100 litre eurobin over the wall where it dropped 20 feet onto the beach spilling it’s contents. Where the hell are the police?

I see kids running barefoot, joggers too, hell it’s only a matter of time before my dog gets hurt let alone a person.

The beaches are beautiful, you can’t beat walking on the beach with the tide crashing watching the sun come up, it makes the rest of the crap we put up with worthwhile – just.

Now all that has to be done is to persuade people to visit them. Preferably without the cost of having to raise a second mortgage.

How many times has this article been repeated?
I remember reading this again & again since 1975!
Yes Jersey has a beach or two “amazing”,but you can find beautifull beaches in Brittany or Italy for example so whats so great?

Jersey had more to offer forty years ago than it does today so if the weathers horrendous then you have nothing but a crap rundown town with a few pubs.Oh and chavs in Range Rovers ;-)

I agree with #1 and #6 about the litter

I always go for a jog in the morning from Beaumont to Millbrook and back, and it’s quite noticeable over the years how the litter problem has got worse and worse

    Overpopulated

6- unfortunately it is not just on the beaches there is rubbish. It is all along every road, bottles, plastic bottles, takeawy containers etc.

The States seem to have no problem paying £300k per year to civil servants but do not spend any money on cleaning up this island.

This pollution has got worse since the population was allowed to increas – against the wishes of locals.
