PROPOSALS to build 4,000 homes, create a coastal national park and apply greater protection to nearly 600 vergées of green land are being debated this week as the Island Plan goes before the States.

Environment Minister Freddie Cohen, who launched ARchitecture Week in Jersey yesterday, has described the plan, which sets out ten years of planning policies, as ‘ground breaking’ and added that it would go further than ever before in protecting the countryside.

But he has a fight on his hands – alternative sites for developments around the Island have been tabled, and a rally is planned for tomorrow to protest about the lack of development opportunities and new homes in the document.
