Culkin seeks golden goals

Island manager Craig Culkin

JERSEY manager Craig Culkin has laid down a Games gauntlet to his players.

Can they score the goals to help the Island retain the football gold in the Isle of Wight?

Jersey begin their campaign on Sunday against Menorca and Culkin is asking his strikers to step up to the plate and deliver.

Culkin, who together with current St Paul’s manager Martin Cassidy piloted Jersey to their success two years ago as caretaker managers, said: ‘On paper we are arguably stronger than two years ago but can the players deliver?

‘We’ve got five strikers in the squad but the question is can they score goals? Ross Crick delivered two years ago and now I’m asking are the current strikers good enough to help us win the tournament?

‘I’m sure they will get the service from the rest of the team, so it’s time for them to deliver and I hope they can.’
