Thistlegrove industrial warehouse site in St Lawrence

AN industrial site in St Lawrence will not be extended to provide more land for local businesses, the States decided yesterday.

In what was the first rezoning issue to be considered during the Island Plan debate, Members rejected an amendment brought by Senator Jim Perchard to extend Thistlegrove, a light industrial warehouse site east of Grande Route de St Laurent.

Opposition to the move, which would have increased the size of the site to around 12.5 vergées, included concerns about increased traffic, access and noise.

The amendment was rejected 37 votes to 13 with one abstention.

Congratulations on another dumb decision. Alot of Businesses in Jersey depend on this site to provide archiving storage of files for x years for legal reasons. This means that business are going to have to pay even more to have files stored else where.

Considering the finance industry is the last ray of hope for Jersey and even that is dying a slow death, you should be doing everything poissible to assist it.

Traffic and noise? what by the businesses accessing their files during standard working hours? who exactly are they going to be disturbing…o thats right, i forgot – Dont wanna be waking up all those people sleeping in on a monday morning, the only day they want to get up is Thursday for the mandatory Social security visit. Nevermind us trying to earn a living!

    small money

so some in the states do not want local people to have a workshop /store / office to work from.
and support themselves and ,maybe even take on a local young person..
no wonder we have so many unemployed.

Silly billy… he should have applied for a new building made of glass and steel.. F.C. would have signed that off in a flash. Perhaps actually its because the site isn’t on top of a beautiful unspoilt cliff, or its not gonna have 600 flats inside it or maybe F.C and his group couldnt get a “local” builder to show any interest… NO – I know… its in the new area F.C listed as a wildlife park – you know – the one just by his houlse..

So build houses and flats, but not the sort of buildiing that will provide employment for the people to earn money to buy the houses and flats?
I’ve heard of domitory towns, but a dormitiory Island? Not with Condor or Flybe the only way to commute.
Last one out tell France to turn off the lights.

I am very glad this has been turned down, this road has become busier and busier and there is more and more rubbish thrown in the hedges.

On one living locally wanted this.

Busy? you are joking? I live around the corner and have used this road 3-4 times a day for 3 years and I don’t think I have EVER seen a vehicle coming or going!

The Island HAS to provide space for light industry to survive, we can’t just have flats as we need somewhere for the small builders etc, or is everyone going to work in Freddies new Finance Quarter?….Mmm!
