A NEW shelter for the homeless which can accommodate up to 18 people was officially opened yesterday.
After touring the site and cutting a cake, the Lieutenant-Governor, Lieutenant- General Sir Andrew Ridgway, opened the new Strathmore shelter in St Mark’s Road.
Strathmore, which was set up by the Shelter Trust, aims to provide accommodation and support to Jersey’s homeless. It has replaced the old centre in St James’ Street.
Sir Andrew has been a patron of the charity for the past five years and yesterday’s ceremony was his last event with the trust before he leaves the Island next week.
