Nurseries site rejected as right place for new homes
Saturday 25th June 2011, 2:57PM BST.
AFFORDABLE homes will not be built on a protected area in St Saviour, the States decided yesterday.
In the second major rezoning debate of the Island Plan, Members voted
31 to 12 against rezoning the Longueville Nurseries site in New York Lane.
Senator Jim Perchard had wanted 15 first-time buyer or social rented houses to be built on the 4.75 vergée site, which has been a garden centre for the last 30 years.
However, Environment Minister Freddie Cohen, who had originally included the rezoning of the site in early drafts of the Island Plan but later removed it, said the site was simply not needed for housing.
