Cause of death crash remains a mystery

A SCENE of utter chaos and devastation met rescuers as they fought to save the lives of five people following a fatal crash at the Hautes Croix junction in St John last year, an inquest heard yesterday.
Giving evidence at the inquest into the death of 34-year-old Maria Fatima Sousa Pestana, who was the only person to die in the crash, acting chief ambulance officer John Sutherland described the aftermath of the accident on 22 August as the worst he had ever come across in his career.
He paid tribute to the emergency services, members of St John Ambulance and passers-by for their efforts on the day and said that everything that could have been done on that day was.
