UK Minister of Transport Teresa Villiers wants the air link to be maintained

THE UK’s Transport Minister has given a huge boost to a campaign to save the Island’s vital Gatwick air links.

The Minister of State for Transport, Teresa Villiers, has written letters in which she expressed the view that ‘connectivity’ between the UK and the Channel Islands was crucial.

Fears have been expressed about the future of the Gatwick link, as a new price structure for aircraft landing charges would significantly increase the costs of operating regular flights from regional airports in smaller aircraft.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with what the Minister of State for Transport may or may not think – it has everything to do with costs at the end of the day and we are small fry to the airlines, whether we like it or not !!!

She talked about the ‘connectivity between the uk and channel islands’ not Gatwick. Supply and demand will determine which links survive. The States could of course subsidise links if they really think they are crucial

i miss heathrow, mainly used for long haul holiday trips .
what’s wrong with the rail link to london
if you are doing business? (from heathrow).
as one of joe public , i feel we only have air links to serve the finance industry.
i am not knocking the finance industry we need it .
the states must not put tax payers money into air lines , it is our landing charges that need looking at.

I don’t suppose it will occur to the States to review their airport charges to try to help the airlines keep the link open.A futile hope, as it has been suggested before to try and stop the tourism industry dying on it’s arse.
Still, once the links are gone while our fine elected members sit on their hands and watch, we can rely on Condor Ferries to bail us out with the St Helier-St Katherine’s dock link.Far more convenient – and reliable.
