The former Bailiff, Sir Philip Bailhache, is standing for Senator

THE former Bailiff, Sir Philip Bailhache, is to stand for election as a Senator, claiming that the States have ‘lost their way’.

Confirming widespread speculation that he would seek a return to the States as an elected Member, Sir Philip has resigned as a Commissioner of the Royal Court and as a Court of Appeal judge and will be a candidate for an Islandwide mandate on 19 October.

He will vie for one of only four Senatorial seats to be filled that day, following the States’ decision last week to reduce the number of Senators.

Sir Philip was elected Deputy for Grouville in 1975 but left politics on his appointment as a Crown Officer, ging on to become Deputy Baiiff and then Bailiff until his retirement in 2009.
