CHARGING gardening companies to dump green waste will increase fly-tipping, gardening companies have warned.

Luis Gouveia, owner of Amazon Garden Services, said that companies would find alternative ways to avoid the charge or pass on the costs to the customer.

And Andrew Le Maistre from Andrew Le Maistre Landcapes Ltd said that the fee would encourage fly-tipping.

This week in the States Transport Minister Mike Jackson confirmed that ‘commercial users’ would have to start paying to dump green waste at La Collette from January next year.

In which case the soil improver that is made by the States from green waste should be given out free to the trade. They can’t have it both ways – they make money from selling soil improver which the trade gives them for free.

Oh so true. Why do TTS need to charge? Because they run a ‘Rolls-Royce service with lots of Hi-Tec machinery.

The green waste is carbon capture par excellence.

Whingeing wealthy gardener’s! whats wrong with ‘user pays’ philosophy? just pass the costs on to your customers.

‘Some’ of this firms (you know who you are!) have already received massive tax payer handouts for machinery.

Maybe they should look at their staffing levels. Quite why 3 people are required to monitor a row of half a dozen skips is beyond me.

I agree number 6. And they make silly rules about not reversing and things like that while they prance about in their green jerkins trying to look officious. I gained the impression on a previous visit to the site that the staff (paid by us) will try to make it as unpleasant as possible to use this public facility.

Indeed, this news confirms the apparent and not so clever policy by TTS of professing to offer facilities that they don’t really want you to use.

With all this “user pays”, I look forward to my income tax going down. Why should we pay twice for public facilities!?

    Bring on the fly tipping!

TTS has been busy “withdrawing facilities” and nailing wheelie bins half-shut for the last year anyway so this comes as no surprise, really.

These charges are nothing less than robbery because the user already pays, i.e. you pay your taxes and then you pay again to use the facilities bought with those taxes.

When user pays was brought in Jersey stopped being served it became managed for profit. At last people are waking up to the fact that income tax is in place to pay for services but lets put on GST to make sure the golden pension pot for the public sector does not run out. We have three taxes.

Minister Mike Jackson like to take our money, get us all out of cars, and refuses to be held to account when it comes to people being hurt besause of pot holes. Now people have to pay mere to employ a gardner to dump waste.

Roll on the elections, oh yes please.

This is a most short-sighted idea Mr Jackson. Has this silly man thought about the cost incurred island-wide to clean up fly tipped waste? It may be green waste, but i doubt he would like a ton of slimy rotten grass clipping s being dumped by the side of his house. There wilkl be a huge increase in bonfires – mmm lovely smoke and particulates.

If Mr Jackson was serious about saving money, then why hire traffic lights for years at the waste site after installing a barrier etc?

Also, who presumed there are rich gardeners? Most actual workers receive low wages. It’s not a quick way to become a millionare. Why not get some real benefit, like tax 11k’s properly?

Luckily for Mr Jackson he is one of Senator le Sueur’s untouchables.
As Constable for St Brelade he is very unlikely to face an election in October, let alone lose it.
