AN 85-year-old farmer was run over by his own tractor yesterday.

The pensioner was working his land in Grouville when there was a problem with the vehicle he was driving.

He got out to inspect and although he put the handbrake on, the tractor remained in gear. While he was looking into the problem at the front of the vehicle, it moved forward and rolled over him.

He suffered a broken hip and leg and was taken to the General Hospital at around midday and was expected to undergo surgery on his injuries.
