The Norwegian cricket team observe a minute's silence at Les Quennevais
THE horror of the double terror attack in Norway has been felt in Jersey.
The country’s cricketers, who were playing an international tournament in the Island when news of the attacks came through, spent Friday making frantic calls to loved ones back home. And Jersey’s Norwegian consul this morning said that he was ‘shocked to the core’ at the news, while Jersey’s foreign minister, Senator Freddie Cohen, sent a message of sympathy and support to the Scandinavian country on Saturday morning.
The team, who played in the ICC European Division One championship in Jersey last week, watched in horror as TV reports revealed how a gunman had killed dozens of people in an island retreat after detonating a huge bomb in the country’s capital, Oslo.
By late this morning, 86 people were confirmed to have died in the massacre on the island of Utoeya and a further seven were killed in the explosion.
