Jersey entry Jackana heads for Guernsey – and victory in the Carey Olsen

IT was a day to remember for Dave Jones as he followed in his late father’s footsteps to clinch the prestigious Carey Olsen Inter Island Yacht Race victory on Saturday.

Skippering Jackana he completed the race, from St Aubin’s Bay in Jersey to St Peter Port in Guernsey, in a corrected time of four hours and 54 minutes to become the second Jones on the trophy after his late father’s success in 2004.

Jones said: ‘It is fantastic to follow in his footsteps. My whole family is delighted. It was a dream race and the northerly breeze made for perfect conditions although the sea state meant that we had to work hard to keep Jackana moving fast.’

In addition the general recall after the first start played into his hands as a change of tactics before the second getaway proved crucial for success.
