Chantelle Le Guilcher celebrates in France
Chantelle Le Guilcher (17) has become the ninth female Islander to swim from Jersey to France.
Setting off from La Coupe at 8.22 am yesterday morning, the young endurance swimmer spent nine hours and 12 minutes in the water before setting foot on a busy French beach in St Germain sur-Plage.
A small flag-raising ceremony was held by way of celebration and the Hautlieu student said that she was relieved to finally reach the shore. ‘It was a really tough swim,’ she said. ‘So it was nice to finally get there. On a round-the-Island swim you can see the different points but when you swim to France you look up and it never moves.’
