Jersey Post to go online with greeting cards

JERSEY Post is intent on entering the online greeting cards business as the States-owned utility searches to find new ways of making money.
Company chairman Mike Liston said it would use its existing equipment to launch itself into the sector. He said that the business has been looking at the move for a number of months and that it would use its print, design and database capabilities to produce personalised and customised cards. The company will be looking to secure partnership deals with existing retailers for marketing purposes, but would also launch its own offering.
‘We do not have the marketing reach to do it completely on our own, but we are not interested in being a third-party operator,’ he said. ‘We will operate as an indigenous business and offer our products at under the level set for low-value consignment relief.’
He said the States-owned utility was confident that it could compete effectively in the online greetings and gifts market. When it does begin to operate, among its competitors will be the well-established Guernsey-based retailers moonpig and Funkypigeon.

amazing,,,,12 years ago this was an idea given to the then CEO……its taken this long to get it off the ground…….in the meantime Moonpig have seen the signs and just sold out to Photo box for £120,000,000…………horse and stable door come to mind

Good idea…. Moonpig just sold for £120m. If it really is using exisitng equipment then let’s hope that the idea is executed well…and is a great success…
With names like Moonpig and Funkypigeon in the marketplace…what do you think Jersey Post will be called it ?…

Here we go again!
Jersey Post launch DeadDuck.com
Have Jersey Post not got better things to be wasting their money on, the marketing spend to compete in this market would be huge let-alone the cost of website + printing kit!

The opportunities for appropriate names for this service are legion!
‘Last sheep through the gate’
‘After the horse has bolted’
‘Stupid Crapauds’
Next Jersey Post are going to go into online gaming and bingo . Oh! and what about mobile phones, tax recovery from the very few UK companies that don’t take it off, parcel delivery , and even perhaps same week letter delivery. (Have you asked the hospital how many appointments are currently being missed because the card arrives after the appointment… think how much that costs the tax payer as well.)Next think the’ll employ a 1(1)K to come up with good ideas (again).

Please concentrate on getting the mail I send and receive delivered on time.
When you can prove that you can deliver on this core part of your service, we, the taxpayer, won’t mind you spending our time and money on schemes and projects.
For the time being please stick to your knitting and refrain from any more jolly japes.

I’d like to pint out that the website http://www.epicfail.com is already taken.
Seriously, have they researched this at all. Moonpig is already global. It’s like saying ‘we’d like to start up a rival to amazon.com, we’ve got a warehouse and some stamps…’

Jersey post could call it Snail mail greetings.
How the hell they going to do this.
I use moonpig and the card is there the next day without fail.
Come on Jersey post try sorting the mess out with a 5 day service before you go screwing something else up with no promise of deliveries on time.

That’s good…..LazyCow.com
You can create your own card, but it will cost twice as much (Jersey prices of course) and take a week to be delivered…..locally!!
Jersey Post has no credibility anymore……maybe they should have thought about that before laying off the essential postal staff and providing a substandard service as a result!

Is this a belated April Fool by any chance? Mind you, I’m not surprised, considering the postal service itself seems to have a time delay attached these days!
Why would anyone in their right mind order a greetings card from a company that seems to find it impossible to deliver a letter on time? Answers on a postcard please, although I won’t hold my breath that they’ll actually arrive!

They thought the phone idea was a “breakthrough”
watch these “civil servant” types screw up yet again,if this goes the way the postal service is being run has NO chance.

Will it work on Saturdays?
Why don’t they waste £2million quid on it and just call it ME:MO
Mike Liston must love being given a bottomless pit of money to try his childhood ideas…
Well Mike, for that reason, I’M OUT!!!

Never mind will it work on Saturdays. After all the hoo ha on the Island regarding Sunday opening, will people have to order cards on Saturday or a Monday and only get them delivered on these days as surely there would be anarchy following such a previous “attack” on the Island way of life ?
Anyway, I’ll be over on the Island tomorrow and I’m really looking forward to it.
I really liked the suggestions for the name of the service though from the previous posts, sarcasm at it’s best.

Tom Peters who was once the one of the world’s highest paid management gurus would advise ‘stick to the knitting’. In other words get the Postal Service right first.
Stick to the knitting!

Whatever you do, don’t complain about noisy exhausts outside where you live. It doesn’t go down well and you will be pointed in the direction of the Elzabeth Terminal. Good luck and welcome (back)!

so they will undercut moonpig and alike?

No mention of the investment required to deliver this service and the ROI for the idea. It not new and many are doing it well today so what makes JP think they can do better.

Another MeMo?
What did happen to all the money they invested in MeMo? I suppose a few posties got the boot to compensate for the losses.

Great news…. Diversity is a good thing. Why nobody ever thought of this exciting business venture before! They could also look into providing, say, Air Traffic Control services, or Marine Salvage, or best of all, ROOF THATCHING, yeah! – now that’s really clutching at straws!

I give it 6 months to a year then it will go the same way I predicted MEMO would go.

Another original idea by Jerseypost !!!! far better name would be – Snailmail.com with advertising such as
Order now for Christmas – 2012 !!!!
Order your birthday cards now – if it doesnt arrive for this year, hopefully will be there by next year – Free refunds if recipient dies of old age before they receive.
A universal card with Happy Birthday/Easter/Christmas/New Year/Wedding and just delete as apropriate depending when it arrives
