Monsignor Nicholas France addresses those who attended the vigil

THE grieving Islander who lost his wife and daughter in last week’s Victoria Crescent murders told mourners at a candlelit vigil on Saturday night that the tragedy had ‘shattered his life completely’.

As 150 mourners gathered quietly in the Royal Square, a tribute from bereaved husband and father Craig de la Haye was read in which he described his devastation and shock at the killings.

They heard the Roman Catholic Dean in Jersey, Monsignor Nicholas France, read Mr de la Haye’s tribute and heard addresses in English and Polish from Mgr France, as well as the Dean of Jersey, the Very Rev Bob Key and Polish priest Father Stanislaw Adamiak.

The tragedy was also marked around the Island over the weekend – the Rock in the Park event fell silent for three minutes, and a minute’s silence was held at Jersey Rugby Club’s match against Loughborough Students on Saturday, during which the Jersey players wore black armbands as a mark of respect.
