Banahan named in World Cup squad

Matt Banahan is to be the first Jerseyman to represent England at a Rugby World Cup.

The 24-year-old Bath winger-cum-centre, who has has been a regular in the England squad since his debut in 2009, was named as one of four centres.

The majority of his 13 full international caps have, however, come on the wing.

England manager Martin Johnson, who captained England to World Cup glory in 2003, announced the in the 30-man squad  this evening. The event in New Zealand starts early next month.

    Good work Matt. For someone to be part of a WC squad despite taking up rugby late on and changing his position from prop after a few more years, this is some accomplishment.
