New business overseer ‘will have total independence’
Thursday 25th August 2011, 3:00PM BST.
A NEW body that will hand out business advice and grants will not be part of the public sector and will not employ any civil servants.
A new States-funded body is due to take over the roles of Jersey Business Venture and Jersey Enterprise at the start of next year, and it has been confirmed by Economic Development Minister Alan Maclean that that the new organisation will be called Business Jersey and will handle most aspects of supporting primarily non-finance local business development.
Senator Maclean said that plans were being advanced by a working group from the Economic Development department and Jersey Business Venture.

KIT 4 CLUBS
Win a share of £10,000
2012 is the year of the London Olympics and to celebrate this great event the Jersey Evening Post, in association with sponsors Ogier is giving all sporting clubs a chance to win a share of £10,000.

I expect all the usual retired bankers, accountants, advocates, public employees and states members will serve on this as well.

A new States-funded body…’
That’s right. It will employ somebody’s mates using public money.
This is Jersey.

I can already almost name a few of the people who will control this new body. It’s Board will no doubt be made up of people who are already on the Boards of Jersey Telecoms, Jersey Post, Jersey Milk and WEB plus a few of the JFSC Commissioners.

“Like many ordinary folk, today I feel a very giddy mushroom.”
Kept in the dark and fed on a byproduct of the cattle industry?
We, the poor old taxpayers, will pay for this but who will this body be answerable to for it’s use of funds, objectives and day to day management?
Alan Maclean is an innocent rich boy swimming in a world of sharks but it is our flesh that they are eating!

‘will have total independence’
So, millions are going to be handed over to a independent body and they can then hand out grants to their friends and pet projects?
