Compensation plans for States care abuse victims

VICTIMS of serious sexual abuse when they were children in States residential care could receive up to tens of thousands of pounds in compensation in a deal currently being negotiated.
If the deal is finalised and given States approval, anyone in the Island who was subjected to abuse as a child while in States residential care in homes which include Haut de la Garenne will be eligible to apply for compensation under it.
People will be eligible to apply for compensation whether their alleged abuser was convicted or not.
It is hoped that the compensation deal will be agreed before the end of this States Assembly.
