Match of the day
Friday 26th August 2011, 3:00PM BST.
THEY may be the new boys in National I, but both Fylde and Jersey are aware that tomorrow afternoon’s clash on the west coast of Lancashire probably gives them the toughest possible introduction to the third level of English rugby.
Now that’s saying something, given the quality of the division. But both promoted clubs have momentum and are ambitious; both have quality players, good support and excellent coaching set-ups.
Flyde ended an eight-year exile from this level when they came up like a rocket from National II North, while Jersey needed a play-off to get lift-off from National II South.
But both squads have undergone considerable change over the close season – Fylde have brought in 11 new faces and Jersey eight. And neither are weaker for the changes, far from it.
