Triathlon champ could miss out out
Saturday 27th August 2011, 3:00PM BST.
REIGNING Ogier Jersey Triathlon champion Daniel Halksworth is a doubt for tomorrow’s 2011 event after suffering an Achilles injury in a training accident.
The 25-year-old, a professional triathlete with Team TBB in Switzerland, crashed during a cycle last month when a bar on his bike snapped.
He was sent flying and a team-mate rode over him with the chain rings digging into his heel and causing a deep, damaging, cut.
Halksworth, who has just extended his contract with TBB, said: ‘I could barely walk. It was so depressing but I have been patient and I am getting stronger now every day.
The annual race starts at 7 am from Bel Royal tomorrow, with a 1,500m swim in St Aubin’s Bay, a 40 km cycle around the west of the Island and a 10 km run along the seafront.
