JERSEY students could be forced to pay higher fees at some UK universities than at others, the Education director has said.

It follows the news that competition laws in the UK mean that Jersey’s special relationship with universities in England and Wales over fees is in jeopardy, following a new UK ruling.

As a result Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man now have to negotiate deals with universities on an individual basis for courses starting in September 2012.

Education director Mario Lundy said the islands would be starting with the universities most popular with their students and working together from there.

#2 Mary, alas, they’d have to have a very good grounding in another language before studying in the country for which that language is the mother tongue. And this flexibility isn’t a trait that anyone with English as their first language is known for!

I think they might have to already know the foreign launguage to study there! There are very few European Universities that teach mainly in English.

If you want them to learn a foreign launguage then you should of sent them abroad before secondary school! LOL.

In Scotland you don’t pay University Fees if you are born in Scotland, and attend one of their Uni’s.
So where do we send ours? Europe or further away!
If we cut back on all and sundry claiming our benifits, then maybe we can get a bit of help from The States. yer right!
Once again two sided Laws, are the foreigners (Africans/Chinese/Japanese/Americans/Europeans etc..)that attend UK Universities having to pay the higher rates that we do? Can we see the figures on this please, will it all be made transparent?
