Constable pays parish back after ‘irregularities’
Thursday 1st September 2011, 3:00PM BST.
A CONSTABLE has had to pay back £2,500 of ratepayers’ money following the discovery of ‘financial irregularities’ in his parish’s accounts.
An investigation has now been launched into allegations that St John Constable Graeme Butcher spent money without authorisation.
And parish officials said that their initial inquiries into his spending had given them ‘further cause for concern’.
Details of the affair were announced at a parish assembly last night which had been delayed for several weeks while questions were asked about Mr Butcher’s actions.
