Child employment law in force next month
Friday 23rd September 2011, 3:00PM BST.
FROM next month the way teenagers are employed at weekends, after school and in the holidays will be controlled by law.
The new Children (Regulation of Employment) (Jersey) Order 201 takes effect from 1 October and will apply to children aged 13 to 16.
With the aim of protecting children in Jersey, the law will limit the hours they can work, as well as the times, type of work and the breaks they must have.
Leaflets explaining the changes will be handed out to every young person in full-time education from years seven to 11 later this month to make sure everyone is aware of what the law means to them.
