NEW play equipment and a music recording studio are just some of things schools are hoping to buy if they are winners with the Jersey Evening Post’s Cash4Schools competition.
Schools have the chance to win a share of £10,000 by collecting tokens from the JEP but they must register for the competition by the end of today.
This year, Cash4Schools is sponsored by the One Foundation and there are ten prizes up for grabs, ranging from £500 to £2,000.
Kevin Lemasney, chairman of the One Foundation charity which supports education, sport and culture, said: ‘We would like to encourage as many schools as possible to participate in the Cash4Schools campaign.
‘This is a great opportunity for schools to raise the profile of projects for which they require funding and it is projects such as these that the One Foundation seeks to help.’
The competition has inspired students and teachers alike, with many ready and waiting with ideas to transform their school.
Some hope to stock their library with fiction books while others want to make play-time even more fun with new PE equipment.
Encouraging the students to become environmentally friendly is one school’s wish while another hopes to build a recording studio to nurture musical potential.
Schools that register before today’s deadline will have another chance to win with a weekly prize draw. A goodie bag will be given out to one school each week during the month-long competition, filled with cinema tickets, HMV and WH Smith vouchers and day passes for the Aquasplash. The first competition token will appear in Monday’s JEP and can then be collected daily till 22 October.
Mr Lemasney is encouraging teachers and students to collect as many tokens as they can.
He said: ‘We hope that pupils, parents, relatives and friends will get behind their local schools and collect as many tokens as possible to complete some of these projects. You have to be in it to win it!”
Registration for Cash4Schools ends today.
Registrations will be accepted after today’s deadline but will not be entered into the weekly prize draw.
