I read from the very erudite blog Cyclists in the City, that top four accounting firm Deloitte is removing car parking spaces from its offices in the Square Mile to replace them with cycle parking.

This very encouraging because, not only is Deloitte losing car parking, but also the income that it gains from it.

Many businesses are now realising that walking and cycling are not only healthier but faster too.

Here is an offer that’s hard to refuse, an early bird ticket to the 2012 London Bike Show; like this year, one ticket will get you into The Outdoors Show, the Tullett Prebon London Boat Show and also into the Active Travel Show which is new this year. http://www.thelondonbikeshow.co.uk/buy-tickets/

In London between 28th September and 29th October? If so pop into City Cycle Style, a free exhibition at the Royal Exchange, where well-known photographer Horst A Freidrichs has an exhibition of photos of 40 of London’s most stylish cyclists. These icons range from Boris Johnson to Paul Smith, from Hazel Robinson to Paul A Young. They are photographed with an eclectic mix of bikes from fixed to vintage.

Ever dreamed of your perfect bike? Well if a really special gift is needed you could always suggest a Project One from Trek.

This offers the buyer the opportunity to specify frame, colour, equipment and fit, so if you are not totally au fait with bike building then your friendly Trek retailer will take care of everything.

Choose from 10 frames, going from the Custom Madone 6 series right up to the Madone 6.9 SSL, and this includes one specialist time trial/ triathlon bike.

Choose from four basic colour schemes or ‘nearly endless’ Signature Series upgrade colour schemes, choose your equipment and then make sure it’s comfortable! How good is that? http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/collections/custom_project_one

Also just out from Trek, this YouTube clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZcuGJ8PhJk

I liked it when I first saw it a couple of years ago, and this new Gocycle G2 electric bike is even better.

The new model, which is out in November, has a number of new features. These include a lighter lithium battery with a range of up to 40 miles and an integrated dashboard with a fuel gauge.

The upgraded G2r model has electronic shifting and torque-sensing pedal drive. http://www.gocycle.com/category_s/80.htm

If you’re one of those far-sighted people who realises that many bicycles are just so beautiful they should live indoors – possibly as a centre piece in the living room – then here is the ideal way to display and park them at the same time.

I spotted this sculptural Furniture for Bikes on Yanko Design, a portal for the very latest designs in almost anything. Here is the link to the designers Quaterre: http://www.quarterre.com/

Mark Cavendish finished a very successful season by a brilliant win in the UCI World Road Championships in Copenhagen at the weekend, securing the World Champion’s rainbow jersey.

Cavendish thanked his British team who had at one time made up a seven minute deficit on the leading group, and then kept Cavendish near the front as the end of the race got closer, so that he could unleash his renowned sprint and win. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxoZlXSePg4

NewYork City is hot on the heels of London in the race to make the place more cycle friendly.  The Big Apple’s hire bike scheme will indeed be bigger and more expensive for the user. The city plans a fleet of 10,000 bikes which will be based at 600 docking stations. In Britain the scheme was funded by public money, whereas in New York City the scheme is underwritten by sponsorship and hire fees. The scheme will be run by Alta Bike Share Inc who currently run similar schemes in Washington DC, Boston and in Melbourne in Australia.

The car manufacturer Ford has shown a concept electric bike at the recent Frankfurt Motor Show. The bike uses Formula 1 technology in its construction and power system. The bike uses a system that converts magnetic energy into kinetic energy and back again.  The frame is made from carbon fibre and aluminium and weighs a very respectable 5 pounds.

And Finally,

It had to happen in Portland, Oregon, one of the USA’s most bike centric cities – a mobile vet that travels around by bike. http://rivercitybikevet.com/about/
