Music festival goes bust
Tuesday 27th September 2011, 3:00PM BST.
THE company behind the eco-friendly Grassroots Festival has ceased trading because of financial difficulties.
All future festivals have been cancelled and creditors owed money will be contacted soon, the directors of Allez-oop Promotions said.
It is thought that the company’s problems were caused when a large sponsor pulled out of their upcoming Groundswell Festival in France, causing the event to be cancelled and an announcement that all tickets would be refunded.
Thousands of Islanders attended the fourth annual Grassroots Festival at Val de la Mare Reservoir this year, where headliner Seasick Steve topped the bill.

What is worrying is the amount of money local creditors are owed.

What??? I thought grass roots was all about “being a bit of a commie” and “sticking it to the man!”
So even a hippy free-for-all needs some kind of evil capatilist backing to keep it going.
I guess it turns out you do need “the man” after all. Stick that up your smelly dreadlocks!!

Just goes to show how precarious the festival business is, before you even factor in the lack of willing from the likes of the Constable of Trinity.

The number of music festivals seem to have mushroomed in the boom years, I would assume there are now too many as their customers are now having to be more careful about how they spend their money.
It is a shame for people who have not been paid, hopefully there will be something left in the bank for them.

Isn’t this the same company that Jersey Enterprise gave significant funding to?
How does that get accounted for?
