Flock of birds could have cut Island’s power

A FLOCK of birds flying into overhead power cables in France could have caused Monday night’s Islandwide power cut, the JEC said today.
Company chief executive Chris Ambler explained that the most likely cause was a foreign object bridging the gap between two cables and shorting the system.
That object, he said, could have been anything from birds to a paper bag, stick or balloon.
‘It could have been a short across contacts or a short to earth,’ he said. ‘This sort of thing does happen quite a lot.’

KIT 4 CLUBS
Win a share of £10,000
2012 is the year of the London Olympics and to celebrate this great event the Jersey Evening Post, in association with sponsors Ogier is giving all sporting clubs a chance to win a share of £10,000.
It could have been my aunt Nellie putting the kettle on for Corrie, it could have been Baron Frankenstein drawing on huge reserves of electricity to ressurect his monster.
Sod what it could have been, how can they not know what it was nearly 2 days later.

What, so a paper bag could take down the entire supply line to Jersey and Guernsey?
Lets pray that the string between the two cups that JT use doesn’t break as well.

A PAPER BAG…. might have fused out 2 cables carrying about 100,000volts- I DON’T THINK SO. why don’t you just admit it.. WE’VE NO IDEA WHAT HAPPENED AND AS WE’RE A MONOPOLY WHO CARES, and put your timers right yourself as we won’t send anybody out.

It’s a while since school but I did think that a ‘stick’ wouldn’t really be able to bridge the gap between two cables as it wouldn’t conduct electricity..?

Hang on its wednesday at five past eight and another bag has blown onto the wires.
Sort ya stuff out and provid the bloody service we are paying for.

And tonight was the second flock of birds trying to ascertain what had happened to the first flock of birds?
Maybe it was the same flock of “birds” that did it again this evening. Should move the wires as they are obiously in the flight path of some pretty dangerous electrically hungry migratory sparrows. Just admit that you havn’t got a clue…..

Okay so what happened to the power tonight 28.09.11 ?????

What has come out of this is Jersey Telecoms failure to protect the network of board band and telecommunications. The power went out for an hour and all hell breaks loose with the network. Board band is lost for a long period of time and the 3G network was lost during Tuesday.
What ever happened to resilience!
What would have happened if this occured at mid-day?
Millions spent and all it took was a, quote “Paper Bag”.

OR it could have been caused by the States, erm JEC not paying the French for Leccy being used, well the economy has shrunk by 5%.
OR its Claude and Pierre have been at the Calvados and thought it would be ‘ Tres Jolie ‘ to blackout the Islands again.
OR it was a bag / birds / pointy stick. Is that all it takes to disable half of France and the entire Channel Islands?
Ye Gods! Best not let anyone know with malicious intentions how easy it would be to close down ‘ The Worlds Best Offshore Centre ‘.
Bit frightening really.

The power went out tonight due to some ‘clowns’ playing with balloon animals, obviously shorted the cables…lol paer bag, balloon or stick, I have never heard so much rubbish in my life. If our power can be interrupted and cause all the hassle it has because of something as stupid as that then I think its about them ‘clowns’ re-thought our power suppliers… balloons!!, Think I just wee’ed a little hehe

DOH (!!)
Foot in mouth syndrum.
Should really run for Government, you’d do well(!)

Completely unacceptable. Heads should now roll. Your job is to provide power to this island, you have failed, Stop making excuses and just go.
But no……this is Jersey, the home of apathy. We will continue to be fed lie after lie and NOBODY will do anything about it.
The true Jersey way = best not rock the boat.

Surely they meant a flock of flying pigs?

Coo Blimey, Looks like Chris Ambler attended the same school as The Wizard of Ozouf. Chris failed his elemntary physics exam and the Wizard failed Math’s and Economics.
Pue these two in a dark room and neither could find their backsides whilst using both hands.
Never mind at least the suns out and it has given us a great laugh.
A bien tot.

I think what the JEC need to be telling the Island population is what was the redundancy plan for occasions like this and why did it not work!
In this day and age we cannot have only one feed for our electricity to the island their surly has to be multiple feeds so if one fails the next will start up and if that fails the next…..
What happened to your Redundancy Curious Minds want to know….

The most likely cause of the power cuts in France is the fact that a solar flare hit the earth at 8.30 on monday, this in turn caused a magnetic storm and shorted French overhead power cables.
The warnings of solar activity 24 were made as early as June so it is no surprise to the power industry ! Keep a look out for the Northern Lights over the next couple of days.

Who cares?
We can all moan and have our say but does anything get done about it?
Jersey will continue to let its locals down until everyone stands together but until then look after #1, be rude to others and rip off whoever you can.

Sun spots 1302 and 1305 released a double whammy over the weekend and have hurled a coronal mass ejection (CME) towards planet earth.
Those living in northern regions of the world should expect beautiful auroras and there may be geomagnetic storms from tomorrow (Oct 4th) which may cause power disruptions.
Stock up on batteries folks !
