Warren trial: Jury tampering alleged
Friday 30th September 2011, 3:00PM BST.
GANGSTER Curtis Warren has launched a new bid for freedom amid allegations that a States police officer contacted a juror during his high-profile drugs trial.
Warren – once one of Britain’s most notorious gangland criminals – was jailed for 13 years in 2009 following a failed bid to execute Jersey’s biggest ever drugs importation.
Five others – including his right-hand-man John Welsh – were jailed for between five and 12 years for their part in the doomed drugs enterprise.
But speculation has always surrounded the mysterious removal of a male juror shortly before the panel was sent out to consider its verdict.
