Picnics

It’s a beautiful sunny day and you’re planning to pack a picnic and get out there.

You can stop wherever you want, whenever you want but don’t forget to go for a spread with a distinctly Jersey flavour and make it as simple or as elaborate as you want.

It can be a romantic picnic for two on one of the glorious headlands at the end of a perfect summer’s day, or a busy family picnic lunch on one of the beautiful beaches.

A visit to the market or supermarket will provide you with Jersey butter, cheese and a choice from a delicious range of Jersey yoghurts.

Try the traditional Island cabbage loaves which are baked on cabbage leaves.

Visit the Fish Market in Beresford Street and get some cooked prawns, crab or shellfish from Faulkner Fisheries for the tastiest sandwiches.

Wander around the Central Market and take your pick from the many stalls selling Island-grown tomatoes, spring onions, celery and peppers.

And what about the fruit? Strawberries, raspberries, plums and apples are perfect for a Jersey picnic, and why not add some delicious chocolates from Saffrons in Conway Street for that extra treat.

Just drive to a beautiful destination, bring out the food and tuck in. And if the weather changes, don’t worry. It’s an Island tradition to sit in the car, admire the view and bring out the coffee and sandwiches.
