Hamptonne

000125-1.jpgThe Hamptonne Country Life Museum is situated in a quiet country lane in St Lawrence and reflects farm life in times past.

Situated in the heart of the Island, Hamptonne is a true slice of Jersey’s past – both agriculturally and historically. It consists of a cluster of faithfully restored farm buildings including two beautifully thatched houses, partly dating from the 15th century, a cider house, bakery, washhouse and stables. Hamptonne, however is a good deal more than simply restored buildings.

The site teems with activity every day with guided tours, demonstrations and of course the famous seventeenth century goodwyf who is on hand to chat about life in her time. Her unique brand of historical gossip makes a visit here truly memorable. With all this is a woodland walkway, pond and wildflower garden with preparations underway for a sensory garden later in the year and, as you would expect, plenty of farm animals.

A collection of farm equipment, informative displays and living history help to explain how Jersey farm life has developed over the centuries. There is also a restaurant and picnic facilities in the sheltered valley.

Served by bus routes 7 and 7b.
