A JERSEY couple do not feel safe in their own home after thieves broke in and stole tens of thousands of pounds worth of jewellery.

On returning to their St Martin property last week, Richard Billington (71) and his wife Adèle (73) were devastated to find shards of glass strewn across the carpet and dozens of empty jewellery boxes on the floor.

And now the couple, who have lived in the house, La Butière, for the past 32 years, fear going to sleep at night.

Mrs Billington said: ‘I don’t feel safe in the house and am waking up at night every time I hear the slightest noise. It was such an invasion of privacy. I just don’t feel safe.’
