FIVE animal charities have each received a £34,000 legacy, one of them being the organisation which cares for the Island’s sick and injured hedgehogs.

The benefactor, Yvonne Baton, left a total of £170,000 to be equally divided between the Jersey Hedgehog Preservation Group, Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, the Donkey Home, the Animals Shelter and the JSPCA.

News of these bequests came as a surprise to the charities, who have described the gesture by the benefactor as extremely generous.

Dru Burdon of the Jersey Hedgehog Preservation Group, who runs the sanctuary, said that they had been amazed to receive the legacy.

Mogit – So the JSPCA get a double handout then !!!

You got a problem with the JSPCA? they are a great charity and I’m delighted they have received a donation. I got my dog from them and they were brilliant.

Are you ever happy with anything, I think this forum provides an outlet for serial moaners like you, is your other half getting any reprieve from your constsnt whinging or is it the same as ever in addition to your endless whining on here, moaning old git – I’ll say.

No #2, clearly Mogit’s point was that the JSPCA is the Animal Shelter.

Yes I got that but why is it a problem is a private individual chooses to leave money to an animal charity that benefits the JSPCA twice.

Barely worth the effort to type the moan I would have thought. They need the money as many idiotic individuals have abandoned animals due to the recession – well you can’t have 2 holidays a year, run a car, smoke and drink AND feed the dog can you.
