The annual Poppy Appeal to commemorate those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in war was launched at a service at the Cenotaph yesterday.

The Lieutenant-Governor, General Sir John McColl, placed a cross at the Field of Remembrance yesterday in one of his first official engagements.

Sir John was joined by former servicemen and representatives of the service organisations, as well as Bailiff Michael Birt, Chief Minister Terry Le Sueur and St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft.

Flags representing the service organisations and all 12 parishes were lowered in respect of the fallen.
