Four teen girls arrested after break-in at hairdressers’

FOUR young girls were arrested after they allegedly smashed their way into a town centre hairdressers’ and stole hair straighteners and hairdryers.

The group, who are all under 18 years old, were caught on CCTV cameras outside hairdressing salon Elmina in Broad Street just before 5 am yesterday. In the footage, two girls are seen using a broom to smash the window and jump into the shop.

After realising they were being filmed on CCTV, the group pulled up the hoods of their jumpers and made away with electronic goods, including hairdryers and hair straighteners.

Two girls, aged 16 and 17 years old, have been charged with breaking and entering a premises and will appear in the Youth Court on 29 November.

The other two girls believed to be involved were interviewed by investigating officers and then released pending further inquiries.

Elmina’s operations manager, Alex Goode, was called down to the salon early yesterday morning and was shocked to find shards of glass across the pavement and road.
